We get lots of question about which Pond Plants to use in different locations and situations. Here are a few Pond Plant Tips:
Use Pond Plants with Variegated Foliage in shady Ponds. They will provide interesting colors where not enough sun light exists for blooming plants. Some Pond Plants will bloom (although not as abundantly) even if the Pond receives less than 6 hours of sunlight: Water Canna is an example we had good luck with.
Pond Plants with woody stems are best for Ponds with Koi who are notoriously hard on Plants. Water Canna, Lizard Tail, Cypress and any of the Rushes are good choices in that situation.Click Here to forward this message to a friend
Sunny Ponds will support any of the blooming variety, of course, but especially need those that provide surface cover: Water Lilies, Lotus, Aquatic Clover, Parrots Feather (excellent choice for providing spawning cover - it will aid the survival of eggs and baby fish), and Water Pennywort are good choices for cover. |

Fun (Pond) Fact (TM)
Soon it is time for your Pond Fish to spawn! Spawning sometimes causes Ammonia and Nitrite spikes.
Ammonia and Nitrite is highly toxic to your Fish!!
The first signs of this emergency is usually that your Pond Fish congregate around the waterfall or fountain because they have trouble breathing and need the extra oxygen (later signs include bloody fins and dropsy).
A good Water Conditioner will help to immediately reduce these toxins until testing and water changes return the water to a healthy level.
