So...you think your Fish are fighting? ..Fun (Pond) Fact

Goldfish Eggs and Koi Eggs

Those Bullies!
The gang up and chase one poor Goldfish all over the Pond!
A bunch of Koi push one Koi up against a rock!
We need Disciplinary Action!
Noooo..... that is the mating ritual of Pond Fish!
The males chase egg-bearing females and press them against rocks or the side of the Pond to help release the eggs, which they will then fertilize.
It is best to provide lots of plant cover if baby pond fish are wanted, so the eggs can adhere to the pond plants and are well hidden.
Pond Fish WILL eat their eggs and even very young baby fish. Testing for Ammonia and Nitrites is also a good idea, so these harmful substances - which sometimes spike during spawning - will not hurt the Pond Fish.

Feeding Baby Pond Fish, Baby Goldfish and Baby Koi in a Garden Fish Pond

Pond Owners are not likely to see proud Pond Fish Parents parade their Babies around the Pond and handing out tasty morsels of food to them.
Baby Koi and Baby Goldfish are forced to take care of themselves the minute they hatch. A little help is sometimes needed from the Pond Owner due to the partly artificial environment. We must assure that the pond has sufficient oxygen by using a Fountain and/or Waterfall and in some instances the Baby Fish need some additional Baby Fish Food for survival.
There must always be lots of pond plants for the eggs and babies to hide from the big appetite of the other Pond Fish. Water Quality is important to assure survival of first eggs and then baby fish.

Fun (Pond) Fact (TM)

Koi and Goldfish eggs are very sticky and will adhere to plants, rocks and the side of the pond. Although they are sometimes hard to see because they are so tiny, they can often be felt by carefully running a hand over the rock or pond liner.
