The Stuff falling into your Pond from above: Many areas of the country have had torrential rains. This does have an impact on your Pond.
You may see your Water Lilly leaves disintegrating and your Water Hyacinths turning brown around the edges.
You might notice a sudden increase in String Algae, even though the water might be more clear (lack of sun light).
Here are the reasons and what to do about it:
Water Lillies do not like moving water and absolutely detest being splashed. Rain does both. Try to move the Lilly into a more protected spot - maybe under over-hanging branches of a tree or shrub. Fertilize them well and they will pop right back when the weather improves.
Water Hyacinths hate high pH and rain often increases the pH in the Pond. Test the water and adjust as necessary. A few warm days and the Water Hyacinths will come right back to their glory.
String Algae, on the other hand, loves high pH. Adjusting the pond water (see Hyacinths) will help that situation. Growth that aleady started can be cleaned up and further growth prevented. |

Fun (Pond) Fact (TM)
Both Koi and Goldfish are "egg scatterers".
This means they distribute their eggs wildly around the Pond and due to the tiny size of the eggs you might not even know they have spawn.
Try gently running your hand along the liner just below the water line. Often you can feel the ever so tiny bumps that are the eggs adhering to the liner. Checking the roots of your Water Hyacinths or other floating plants might also reveal a bunch of eggs hidden in there.
