Preventing String Algae...the natural way....
It is not as difficult as it seems. String Algae LOVES high pH, so the first thing to do is test the pH and bring it into normal (for a pond) range of 7.0 - 8.0.
That small action alone will take some steam out of the growth of that awful stuff.
After that, the easy way is to throw a Barley Bale in the Pond! It takes about 3 - 4 weeks to start working and half of it MUST always be above water (most Barley Bales made for Ponds have cork or some other means to keep the floating). Since it takes a while for the Barley Bales to start working, the new ones need to be added about a month or a little longer before the old one is deteriorated. Algae is a Plant, plants must have nutrients to grow...use Beneficial Bacteria to take the nutrients out of pond water and keep growth to a minimum.
Want to do it the super easy way? Try "Barley Fusion", the liquid and fast acting version of Barley Bales with Beneficial Bacteria built right in.
