Fall Pond Preparation; Oxygen for Pond Fish

Your Pond is a Magnet.....
...for leaves! Have you noticed how every leaf in the neighborhood seems to find that little hole with water in your backyard? These leaves sink to the bottom (even with Pond Netting some dry, small debris filters through) and start to decompose. The decomposing process uses oxygen and combined with ice cover can cause a drop in oxygen that is dangerous for the Pond Fish and can cause death rapidly! A De-Icer will keep a hole in the ice and let some oxygen get in, but for Ponds with large Pond Fish Populations or medium to large Koi more help is needed! An Air Pump is a relatively inexpensive investment that, combined with cold weather Beneficial Bacteria, pays large dividends keeping the Pond Fish alive in cold weather and also helps prevent sudden Koi death if the Pond stratifies
