>> FALL - WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE POND ?
In many areas of the country the weather is cooling quite
significantly and plants are starting to go dormant.
The activity of the pond fish is starting to slow down as
the water cools.
Tadpoles have turned into frogs by now and left the water
(for the most part).
In some areas floating, tropical Pond Plants such as Water
Lettuce are starting to develop brown edges as the
temperature is getting too cool for them.
Hardy Water Lilies have probably stopped blooming now in
most ponds located in climate zones 6 and colder,
Tropical Water Lilies may bloom for another couple
of weeks or so.
For this reason we are announcing:
>> A NEW E-BOOK IS AVAILABLE: WINTERIZING THE GARDEN POND!
There is NO Cost to download it. Just go to
http://www.pondmarket.com and click on any of the e-book
download links and it is yours!
The e-book covers the basic steps of winterizing ponds in
cooler (and downright cold) climates, we will cover the finer
points in some detail in this newsletter in the coming weeks!
All of us here at www.pondmarket.com would like to take just
a moment to thank all of our loyal subscribers:
We are now over 7000 strong and most of the growth has come
from our subscribers passing the newsletter on to family and
friends who also find it useful! Thank You!
>> WHAT TO DO WITH TROPICAL POND PLANTS
Tropical aquatic plants such as Taro, Water Canna,
Umbrella Palm, etc. can be over-wintered in the house.
Put the plant in a bright, warm place and keep it very, very
moist.
The plant will most likely loose some leaves, but it will
pop right back when returned to the pond in the spring when
the water temperature reaches 65 degrees. In the meantime
it can provide a green piece of nature in the house during
the winter months :)
Tropical pond plants should be moved indoors once the
water temperature drops below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Lilies, just send a blank e-mail to:

|| SOUTHERN PONDS IN FALL
Fall is a good time to re-pot and prune plants in southern
areas of the country.
It is also a good time to clean the bottom of the pond and
check water chemistry.
Some plants will go dormant for a while even in southern
areas, because they are guided by daylight hours and not
necessarily water temperature.
If the water temperature does drop below 60 degrees for any
length of time, then Koi should be switched to easily
digestible Fall/Winter food.
