Like a Tooth.....many pond products are temperature sensitive and do not work as well in cooler temperatures! It is important to know which ones do work during the winter months, and Barley based products are among those that keep doing their job to help prevent stringy, icky growth on waterfalls, plants, streams and rocks! Barley products come in many forms:

• Bales of basic Barley Straw, cheap but take weeks to work
• Barley Pellets, much less mess
• Concentrated Barley Liquid Extract, works fast, NO mess
• used in conjunction with Cool Weather Bacteria, Barley products are great for helping to keep your pond looking good in the winter and making spring clean-up easier and faster!

Fill 'er Up!.....Ponds need to be "topped off", even in winter! But....this is a tough time for the pond fish. Constant temperature changes and the cold contribute to their physical stress. Changing water chemistry from adding fresh water is just one more factor that makes the fish more susceptible to disease and parasites. We can help by using a water conditioner that not only takes the toxic chlorine and heavy metals out of the water, but also helps build the protective slime coat and electrolytes. We use Koi TLC, our own formula that we developed to protect the fish in our care and started to make available to our customers early this spring.

Build, build, build.....It is finally cooler outside and this is a great time to work on the pond (much less sweating)! Always wanted a better waterfall? NOW IS THE TIME! Fun (Pond) Fact.....Fish do not really "hybernate" in the pond, their metabolism just slows down. They still swim around (especially on warmer days). Because fish are "cold blooded" - their body temperature is adjusted by their environment, not internally like ours.
