Avoid fish being eaten by animals

Question:

We have had our pond for about 3 weeks now. I had 3 fantails in it. This afternoon when I went to feed them only 2 were there. I know we have cats in the area but never had a problem with them coming into the fenced-in yard. Is there anything I can put around the pond to deter the them or any other animal that you think could have gotten our fish? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
