Fish staying towards top of pond

Question:

my fish are having problem breathing and eating and rocks are turning green and why are the fish staying at the top of the pond for air

Answer:

It sounds like your pond has developed a problem with Ammonia and Nitrite. These are produced by fish waste and sometimes quickly reach toxic levels for various reasons.

The pond water needs to be tested immediately and until Ammonia and Nitrite levels are back to zero ALL feeding of the fish must stop!

Partial water changes must be done daily and the pH adjusted to as close to 7.0 as possible in a safe and slow manner to help the fish breathe (Ammonia and Nitrite affect gill function, the fish have a hard time breathing and hover near the top trying get more oxygen). De-chlorinator must be used if city tap water is chlorinated. Our Koi TLC is a de-chlorinator which also detoxifies Ammonia and Nitrite immediately and is very useful in emergencies such as this =”color: rgb(0, 0, 153);”>Fast acting benefical bacteria should be added in about double the usual dosage until the pond is back in balance.

Our Total Care kit will take care of all these issues except adjusting the pH which can be done with pH UP or ph DOWN.
