Goldfish ick

Question:

I think my goldfish has ick. They have white fugus all over ther body, and they live in a outdoor pond. I live in NC. I was told by the fish store to put salt in the pond, and the cold weather would take care of the rest, and it would be cleared pu by spring. Doesn’t seem to help so far. do you have any ideas. i would really like to keep my fish.

Answer:

The first thing to do is determine whether what has befallen your pond fish is a fungus or ick. These are two separate and different problems. Ick looks like tiny grains of sugar, while fungus looks more like a coating of white cotton candy. Next step is to determine the source of the problem. The pond water needs to be tested for nitrites and ammonia. =”https://www.pondmarket.com/store/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=38″>fish fungus or ick medication.
