Stop feeding at what temp?

Question:

I heard you should stop feeding goldfish the end of Nov, which is what I did. But instead of being dormant they are still swimming around and look lively. I have a heater to keep a thawed spot and I kept my pump running. Should I feed them? Thanks:)

Answer:

If the pond water is 48 degrees F or below you don’t want to be feeding your pond fish. The digestive system of a pond fish can’t handle being fed when the temperature is 48 degrees F and below. So even though the fish are swimming around you don’t want to be feeding them until the water temperature rises to a steady 58 degrees F or higher.

Be sure to use a Pond Thermometer to determine the temperature of the pond water.
